PRESS RELEASE

October 18, 2024, Toronto, Ontario - The Canadian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Exporters Alliance (CPMEA) welcomes the announcement by Premier Doug Ford of the Ontario Government’s $146 Million investment in the next stage of their Life Science Strategy. The CPMEA commends the Ontario government for its commitment to local production of medicines and the establishment of the $24 million Life Sciences Scale-Up Fund (LSSUF) to help Ontario companies expand production capacity and prepare them for new procurement opportunities in Ontario and beyond.
By focussing on a comprehensive Life Science Strategy which includes domestic pharmaceutical manufacturing, Ontario can ensure security of supply for all patients and continued access to the medicines they need everyday. At this time of increasing geopolitical and supply chain risk, it makes sense to strengthen our strong, resilient and competitive pharmaceutical sector based in Ontario. Representing companies that make medicines in Canada, the CPMEA looks forward to working with the Ontario government as they implement the next phase of their Life Sciences Strategy.
